The Maryland Board of Chiropractic and Massage Therapy requires that an applicant for massage licensing or registration will have graduated from a federally accredited school. Holistic Massage Training Institute received its federal accreditation from the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools in August 2007. Since then we have admitted and successfully graduated several students who, although they may have been nationally certified or licensed in other states, were not eligible to practice in Maryland. We welcome all transfer students no matter how many hours may have been completed at another school. We are sure you will find your experience here rewarding. Credit for previous training will be evaluated by Holistic Massage Training Institute upon receipt of official transcripts from a school recognized by the US Department of Education, the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or by the state in which the school is located. Transferred hours will be accepted for courses that match the content of courses offered at Holistic Massage Training Institute. The course taken at another institution must be completed with a minimum score of C (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) in order for Holistic Massage Training Institute to award credit. The number of hours transferred cannot exceed 450 hours. The tuition for transfer students will be calculated proportionate to the number of hours that will need to be completed prior to graduation from Holistic Massage Training Institute. I graduated from Ashford University with a B.A. in Organizational Management. I attended Port Charlotte School of Massage Therapy in 2002. After graduation, I took--and passed--the exam from the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. In 2004, when I relocated to Maryland, the State Board suggested that I supplement my education with additional schooling. I spoke with a number of schools, and found myself becoming more and more disheartened by the negative responses that I was receiving. After an exhaustive search, I spoke with Janine Cormier at Holistic Massage Training Institute. Janine invited me to a meeting, wherein she reviewed my transcripts point by point, communicated with me what information I could update, and ultimately invited me to attend courses at Holistic Massage Training Institute. It was an amazing experience. I felt tended to by Janine's outstanding staff members, who make themselves available to answer any question that students might have, or review any technique. The classrooms are welcoming, helping environments which honor and nurture both learning and creativity. If you are thinking of attending school to become a massage therapist, or if you simply want to learn to massage your friends and loved ones, do consider Holistic Massage Training Institute. The experience is worth the investment. Currently I am one of the talented and diverse group of practicing professionals at Massage at University One, the practice arm of Holistic Massage Training Institute. --Tanisia Smith, BA, LMT, NCBTMB.
