Student Massage Clinic

As a part of the massage therapy program at Holistic Massage Training Institute, students are required to perform a number of massages on the public. In the Student Massage Clinic, which is supervised by a member of the teaching staff, students are able to develop their skills through practical experience.

The cost for all student massage clinic appointments is $40 for 75 minutes.  Because your attendance is vital to the student's education, the fee for your session must be prepaid by cash, check, or credit card.  Cancelled appointments will be credited for another date and time if 24-hours notice is given. Call 410-243-4688 to schedule a session.

What to expect in our Student Massage Clinic:

Please allow 1 hour and 45 minutes for a session, which will include filling out the client intake form, receiving a 75 minute massage, and then filling out a brief evaluation after your experience.

The sessions are semi-private, which means that the cubicles where the students are working are individually surrounded and separated by curtains.

Tipping the student massage therapist is not allowed.

All of our students are trained in Swedish Massage, so you may always request a Swedish Massage if you prefer.  In addition, they will be offering other forms of massage described below at different points in their training.

Types of Massages Offered

Swedish Massage uses long, gliding strokes and gentle-to-medium pressure to increase circulation and induce relaxation.  It will help to decrease muscle toxins and improve flexibility while easing tension.

Deep Tissue Massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and connective tissue.  Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense.  Because the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots, it is also a more focused type of massage.

Acupressure is an ancient healing art using the fingers to gradually press key healing points which stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities.

Shiatsu Massage uses acupressure techniques which are applied with hands, thumbs, elbows and knees in a continuous rhythmic sequence.  Shiatsu is done on a low massage table or on the floor with the client fully clothed.  No oil is used. The purpose is to open the channels of energy and blood circulation to nourish the internal organs, glands, muscles, nerves, and vital centers of the body.

Myofascial Release works with the body's fascia, the connective tissue  which can hold chronic, painful and exhausting stress and tension.  At the end of this massage, your neck and shoulders will be relaxed and you will  breath more deeply, with less effort.

Craniosacral Therapy is a calming, gentle, subtle bodywork that uses light touch to enhance the body's natural healing processes and relieve chronic pain patterns and dysfunction. It works with the body instead of forcefully imposing changes upon it. This technique is increasingly used as a preventative health measure because of its ability to bolster resistance to disease and sustain overall good health as well as increase energy, enhance sleep patterns and decrease incidences of sickness.
